Ramprakash Theater of Jaipur was the first theater building of Hindi speaking state which was built by Maharaja Sawai Ram Singh II in 1878. Ram Singh was very interested in music, dance and drama. After seeing many plays in Kolkata, Delhi and Shimla, he built this theater in Jaipur. He also trained the singers, dancers and courtesans of his own country for acting. For training, he appointed Pestanji Bhai Batliwala of Parsi theater and actor and director Dadabhai Ratanji Thoonthi.
