The modern princely state Karauli was founded in about 995 by Raja Bijai Pal, who is claimed descent from the Hindu god Krishna. His Highness the Maharaja maintains a military force of 281 cavalry, 1640 infantry, and 56 guns, and is entitled to a salute of 17 guns (as of 1892).

Nathdwara is the most important center of Pushtimarg of vallabhacharya and hence it is also called Vallabh style. The painters of Nathdwara began painting Krishna in the world as the inclination of God. Paintings of Pichwai, that is, painting on cloth, is a distinctive feature of the paintings done in Nathdwara.

The song "Jhorwa" is a separation song in Rajasthan. It is sung by a woman in mourning for her lover. In this song the woman recalls the happy times she spent with her lover and expresses the sadness of being without him.
