The modern princely state Karauli was founded in about 995 by Raja Bijai Pal, who is claimed descent from the Hindu god Krishna. His Highness the Maharaja maintains a military force of 281 cavalry, 1640 infantry, and 56 guns, and is entitled to a salute of 17 guns (as of 1892).

Hamiduddin Nagauri (1192-1274 AD) was a disciple of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti. He propagated Sufism as per the orders of his guru. Although he was born in Delhi, he spent most of his time in Nagaur, Rajasthan.

Kalla ji. Kalla ji was born in Vikram Samvat 1601, Merta in the Nagaur district of Rajasthan. Kalla ji is famous as “Lok Devta with four hands”. Temples are located at Bhauraigarh, Mahiyadham Varda, Salumbar, Samalia, Gatroad.
