French President Emmanuel Macron has appointed Gabriel Attal as the next Prime Minister of France. Gabriel Attal is currently serving as the Minister of Education. At 34, he is the youngest prime minister in modern French history. He has also left behind Laurent Fabius, who was appointed Prime Minister in 1984 at the age of 37.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the 27th National Youth Festival in Nashik, Maharashtra on January 12 and address the youth of the country. This year, National Youth Day will be celebrated by all the field organizations of the Department of Youth Affairs in districts across India in collaboration with several government departments. 12 January 2024 is the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda and it is celebrated as National Youth Day.

The Central Government recently appointed senior IAS officer Sameer Kumar Sinha as Additional Secretary and Director General (Acquisition) in the Defense Ministry. Sinha, a 1994 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, is currently serving in his Assam-Meghalaya cadre. Sanjeev Kumar Jindal, who is currently Joint Secretary in the Home Ministry, will now be the Additional Secretary.

The budget session of Parliament is starting on 31 January 2024. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the interim budget on 1 February. Indian Navy's multinational exercise 'MILAN'-24 will be organized in Visakhapatnam from 19 to 27 February 2024. Earlier, the 11th edition of this exercise was conducted in Visakhapatnam under the Eastern Naval Command in February-March 22. MILAN is a biennial multinational naval exercise that started in 1995 with the participation of four countries (Indonesia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand) under the Look East policy.

Udanti Sitanadi Tiger Reserve, which was recently in the news due to encroachment related issues, is located in the state of Chhattisgarh. The tiger reserve located in Gariaband district of Chhattisgarh has faced challenges due to illegal encroachment in its buffer area. After a legal battle, the Chhattisgarh High Court ordered the removal of encroachers from the reserve, where the court rejected the petition filed by the encroachers. The action was based on evidence, including ISRO satellite imagery, which showed that the encroached area was once densely forested until 2012. This issue has highlighted the challenges faced by wildlife sanctuaries in India in the context of illegal encroachment and the need for vigilant conservation efforts.

India will chair and host UNESCO's 'World Heritage Committee'. This will be the first time when India will chair this committee. This is a committee of UNESCO. The World Heritage Committee, in its 19th session, had decided to organize the 46th session in India (New Delhi) which is to be held from 21 July to 31 July 2024.
